ABOUT

ABOUT US

The Heritage Center Food Pantry is registered with and approved by the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB), a certified affiliate of Feeding America.

We have one function: Reducing the risk of hunger for residents in Nelson and surrounding counties. We provide those in need with fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and non-perishable items, meats, frozen foods, dairy products, breads, and bakery goods.

Our all-volunteer staff connects at a personal level with many of the families we serve. We know how much they depend on our help to make ends meet each month.

We are grateful to our donors, partners, and committed volunteers for enabling the pantry to provide healthy food choices  and to increase the number of households we can serve. Thanks to funding from the BRAFB, Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, Nelson County Community Fund, and other donors, we have nearly doubled our refrigeration and freezer capacity, installed a storage shed for food handling equipment such as shopping carts and hand trucks, and created a better environment for our volunteers and our clients.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide the less fortunate in the Nelson County community with access to supplemental and emergency food for individuals and families while serving with kindness, respect, and confidentiality.

The pantry is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

OUR VISION

Access to nutritious food is a basic need of all humans. We are committed to helping our community by acquiring and distributing quality food. It is important to eliminate hunger, promote the value of good nutrition, and instill hope in struggling families.

We envision a place where everyone has access to enough good quality, nutritious food to reduce the consequences of hunger and poor nutrition.
