Our Program

On October 18, 2018, the Heritage Center Food Pantry officially opened its doors and heart to the residents of Nelson County and surrounding areas. We are registered with and approved by the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, a certified affiliate of Feeding America, and the source of most of our food.

Anyone in need can use the service. Clients who are not already registered can fill in a Client Application Form when they arrive or by downloading it using the button below.

We ask new clients for general information such as household size, income, other assistance they receive, and demographic data. There are income limitations for the USDA food we provide, but not for anything else. You can pick up food once a month.

Our goal is to provide an adequate amount of nutritious food to maintain and improve the health and well-being of residents in need. We typically provide fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and other non-perishable foods, meats, dairy, breads and bakery goods, and frozen foods. We also try to accommodate those with special dietary needs by providing some low-sodium items.

A significant percentage of our clients are young children, seniors with limited income, and single parents. Everyone in the community is welcome.
